Poonam Raut spent four years trying to get back into the Indian team. She scored runs in domestic cricket, recovered from illness and worked towards a comeback.
Former India batter Poonam Raut reflected on her international retirement and unfulfilled comeback hopes in an interview with TimesofIndia.com. Despite strong domestic performances after her last international match in 2021, Raut decided to step away because selectors focused on youth and her body struggled to recover after illnesses, including dengue and pneumonia.
Raut represented India for over 12 years, amassing 2,299 runs in 73 ODIs. Looking ahead, she plans to focus on coaching and mentoring young cricketers while remaining open to future roles across cricket administration and commentary.
