Texas Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka and reliever Jakob Junis will hit free agency after their mutual contract options are bought out, according to a report from The Dallas Morning News. Higashioka receives a $1 million buyout instead of a $7 million salary, while Junis will get a $1.25 million buyout on his $5 million option alongside designated hitter Joc Pederson, who previously declined his option.
Higashioka hit .233 with 18 home runs over a two-year stint with Texas, though a forearm flexor strain sidelined him after July 20. Junis posted a 3.64 ERA across 54 1/3 innings with 18 holds and six saves, but struggled down the stretch following midseason hip and adductor injuries.
