Anshul Kamboj earned the Player of the Match award after bowling India to a five-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first ODI in Auckland on November 4. India secured the win via the DLS method in the rain-interrupted series opener after bowling out the hosts for 185. Kamboj delivered an economical spell, finishing with figures of 2/22 across his 10 overs, which included two maidens.
Speaking after the game, Kamboj remarked that "one match doesn't decide a career," referencing his determination to stay focused after previously being dropped following his 2025 Test debut in Manchester. The pacer noted he avoided outside noise and focused on preparation, becoming one of the rare Indian players to win an ODI Player of the Match award with two or fewer wickets without batting.
