Hurricanes skipper Nicola Carey welcomed her first child, then turned out one of her best all-round career performances all on the same day…

Hobart Hurricanes captain Nicola Carey and partner Elyse Villani welcomed their first child, a son named Louis James Villani-Carey, on Wednesday. Following the birth at the hospital, Carey traveled to Ninja Stadium that evening to score a 43-ball 62 and take 2-30 with the ball against the Melbourne Renegades.
Carey will remain in Hobart to be with her family, missing Saturday's match against the Brisbane Heat where Heather Graham will serve as captain. Despite Carey's individual heroics, the Hurricanes suffered a narrow defeat to the Renegades due to a rare wicketkeeping rule infringement on the final delivery.
