The Story in 60 Seconds

PGA Tour golfer Ryan Moore reflected on playing alongside four-time Masters champion Arnold Palmer during the 2003 Masters on an episode of GOLF’s Subpar podcast. Moore qualified for the tournament at age 19 after winning the 2002 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship while attending UNLV. Palmer was 73 years old at the time and competing in his penultimate appearance at Augusta National.

Moore recalled Palmer's enduring competitive fire, including an intense reaction after lipping out a 12-foot birdie putt on the 13th hole. Due to rain delays, the pair played 32 holes in one day, and Moore noted that Palmer refused a van ride back to the clubhouse in the falling darkness, opting instead to finish walking the course.
