Belgium head coach Mark van Bommel announced that Newcastle United forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo decided to withdraw from the national squad for November's international fixtures. The manager confirmed the player made the choice himself after struggling with a severe illness that kept him out for more than two weeks, noting that he still does not feel completely well.
Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle stated that Fernandez-Pardo has resumed training after the heavy virus, though his physical fitness will be assessed ahead of the match against Fulham. The 2026 World Cup squad member will use the upcoming international break to build back up to full speed with Newcastle rather than playing against Turkey and Italy.
