The southpaw was just the third Mets’ player to have his number retired.

Former New York Mets pitcher Jerry Koosman has passed away at the age of 83. The legendary left-hander was a key member of the 1969 World Series championship team and the 1973 National League pennant-winning squad, representing one of the most iconic figures from the franchise's early history.
Koosman is an inductee of the New York Mets Hall of Fame and had his uniform number 36 retired by the franchise. To honor his legacy, the Mets plan to wear a memorial patch on both their home and road uniforms throughout the 2027 season.
