The fast bowler was among their best players…

India fast bowler Mohammed Shami announced his retirement from Test cricket on Friday via an Instagram video message. The 36-year-old pacer concluded his 13-year red-ball international career on November 6, exactly 13 years after making his Test debut against the West Indies in 2013. Shami stated that while he is stepping away from Test cricket, he plans to continue playing white-ball cricket, including the IPL and domestic competitions.
Shami finishes his Test career with 229 wickets across 64 matches at an average of 27.71, ranking as India's sixth-most successful fast bowler in history. His final red-ball appearance for India came in the 2023 World Test Championship final, having not featured in international cricket since March 2025. He will continue to represent Bengal domestically and the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.
