One Guardians Prospect Could Be Key To Unlocking Offense

Writer Jimmy Swartz argues that prospect Ralphy Velazquez could provide a major boost to the Cleveland Guardians' struggling offense at first base. Cleveland's offense ranked 24th in runs and 27th in home runs in 2026, while primary first basemen Nathaniel Lowe and Rhys Hoskins are entering free agency.

The 21-year-old Velazquez produced a standout 2026 campaign between Double-A and Triple-A, hitting .290 with 29 home runs and 93 RBIs. Swartz notes that a strong spring training could earn the former first-round pick an Opening Day roster spot.
