Manuel Elvira was on the brink of a career-changing victory. Then he laid up into a bunker — and things only got worse from there.

Spanish golfer Manuel Elvira missed out on his first DP World Tour title after a double-bogey on the final hole of the 2026 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. Elvira had grabbed a share of the lead with an eagle on the 17th hole but suffered a series of errors on the par-5 18th. The collapse allowed J.J. Spaun to win the tournament outright.
Elvira's troubles began when he laid up into a fairway bunker on the 18th hole. He then bladed his bunker shot over the green, chunked a chip from the drop zone into another bunker, and missed a short bogey putt. The final mistake dropped him into a four-way tie for second place.
