Former Chicago White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper has passed away at the age of 70, as confirmed by his family on Wednesday. Cooper spent 33 seasons as a coach within the White Sox organization from 1988 to 2020, serving as the major league pitching coach for 18 full seasons from July 2002 through the end of 2020.
During his tenure, Cooper played a pivotal role in the White Sox's 2005 championship run, presiding over four consecutive complete games in the ALCS before sweeping the Astros in the World Series. Former players including Jose Contreras and Paul Konerko praised Cooper's motivational abilities, communication style, and deep off-field support.
