The Philadelphia Flyers have officially named Daniel Spencer as the team's Emergency Backup Goaltender (EBUG) for the upcoming season. Under the NHL's new Collective Bargaining Agreement, every franchise is now mandated to designate an EBUG who travels directly with the team. Spencer, 32, served in an arena EBUG role in Philadelphia for the previous three seasons before earning this expanded, dedicated position.
In his updated full-time role, Spencer will practice and travel exclusively as a member of the Flyers. Spencer previously played four seasons of Division III hockey at Finlandia University and played high school hockey at Gloucester Catholic High in New Jersey under coach Guy Gaudreau.
