Nico Schlotterbeck reaches decision on joining Liverpool from Borussia Dortmund in January

Borussia Dortmund central defender Nico Schlotterbeck has ruled out a January transfer move to Liverpool, according to reports. Both the 26-year-old German international and Dortmund have dismissed the possibility of a mid-season departure, though Liverpool reportedly remain interested in securing a permanent deal for him in the summer of 2027 under manager Andoni Iraola.

Schlotterbeck signed a new Dortmund contract in April 2026 containing a release clause, but an ankle ligament injury at the 2026 World Cup delayed transfer moves. Meanwhile, former scout Mick Brown reports Liverpool are also tracking Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite as a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
