The defenseman was hurt while attempting a hit and went into the contact awkwardly. Casey initially limped over to the bench before exiting down the tunnel, leaving his return timeline uncertain.
The injury occurred during New Jersey's 4-3 shootout defeat to the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Casey was expected to take on a significant role for the AHL's Utica Comets this season after having dealt with injuries that kept him sidelined since late January.
