The Pittsburgh Pirates set a new franchise single-season strikeout record during a 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park on September 23. Right-handed pitcher Lake Bachar established the new record of 1,444 strikeouts after fanning Alec Burleson in the first inning, surpassing the previous mark of 1,443 set in 2019.
A total of 30 pitchers contributed strikeouts for Pittsburgh throughout the season. Paul Skenes led the staff with 200 strikeouts, followed by Braxton Ashcraft with 173 and rookie Bubba Chandler with 138, while Mason Montgomery paced all relief pitchers with 102 strikeouts.
