Pirates tame Tigers to secure first winning mark since 2018

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-2 on Sunday in Detroit, finishing the season at 82-80 to secure their first winning record since 2018. Rookie Konnor Griffin sparked Pittsburgh by hitting a leadoff solo home run and adding an RBI single, while starter Jared Jones yielded just one hit over four scoreless innings.

Jake Mangum and Billy Cook also drove in runs to give Pittsburgh an early 4-0 cushion. Detroit answered in the seventh inning with back-to-back solo homers from Kevin McGonigle and Eduardo Valencia, but Lake Bachar earned the win in relief and Mason Montgomery closed the ninth for his 18th save.
