The Boston Bruins have placed center Matthew Poitras on injured reserve retroactive to September 22 due to a lower-body injury. The announcement came alongside the team's final roster cuts, trimming their roster to the 23-player maximum. Because he is on a two-way deal, Poitras will carry a prorated cap hit of $30,990 to begin the season.
Poitras, who signed a two-way contract at the start of training camp, loses his waiver-exempt status this season. Once activated from injured reserve, the Bruins will need to place the 22-year-old on waivers if they intend to assign him to the AHL's Providence Bruins.
