Chelsea star sent home from international duty as injury blow confirmed

Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens has officially withdrawn from the England U21 squad after sustaining an ankle injury during a qualifier against Kazakhstan at Molineux. Manager Lee Carsley confirmed the injury after Gittens received a kick to his ankle in the first half and was substituted at the interval. England subsequently called up West Ham's Divine Mukasa as a replacement.

Gittens was seen on crutches following the match, raising concerns for Chelsea where he has been limited to two Carabao Cup appearances this season. Meanwhile, fellow Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer also drew comments from England manager Thomas Tuchel after withdrawing from international duty due to injury.
