Veteran reliever Kirby Yates concluded his 12-year Major League Baseball career on September 26 at Comerica Park. Pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Detroit Tigers, Yates made the first and final start of his major league career opposite veteran starter Justin Verlander.
After entering professional baseball as an undrafted player out of junior college, Yates debuted in 2014 with the Tampa Bay Rays. Over his career, which included stints with the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, and San Diego Padres, Yates earned a World Series title with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025.
