Corbin Burnes Not Expected To Need Shoulder Surgery

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes is not expected to need shoulder surgery after being placed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation during the final week of the season. The 31-year-old stated on Monday that he is dealing with shoulder fatigue rather than a new injury and expects to recover with rest while awaiting a second opinion.

Burnes has endured two injury-shortened seasons since signing a seven-year, $210 million deal with Arizona, having undergone Tommy John surgery in 2025. Although he holds an opt-out clause to forfeit the remaining $140 million on his contract this offseason, he is widely expected to remain with the Diamondbacks for the 2027 campaign.
