Owen Michaels has unexpectedly secured a spot on the Edmonton Oilers roster following training camp. The 24-year-old right-shot center impressed the coaching staff by winning nine of 13 faceoffs during the preseason finale against the Calgary Flames, despite Mike Babcock admitting the player was not originally on the team's radar.
Meanwhile, the Oilers assigned center Josh Samanski to Bakersfield on Monday. Samanski previously played 24 regular-season games with Edmonton last season as a defense-first forward and scored one playoff goal against the Anaheim Ducks before being sent down.
