Oilers put finishing touches on their 2026-27 opening roster

The Edmonton Oilers finalized their opening day roster ahead of the September 28 deadline to become cap and roster compliant for the 2026-27 NHL season. All 32 league clubs were required to submit compliant rosters by 5:00 PM EST, prompting Edmonton to make several adjustments following earlier cuts.

Among the final roster transactions, the Oilers loaned 24-year-old center Josh Samanski to their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. Head coach Mike Babcock stated that Samanski needs to focus on becoming an elite face-off specialist, penalty killer, and defensive center during his time in the minors.
