‘The next step’ – Eckert rates Quarshie’s ‘many attributes’ despite loan decision

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert stated that defender Josh Quarshie departed on loan to gain crucial playing time for his development. The 22-year-old German youth international joined Austrian side Sturm Graz on a season-long loan deal in August after failing to log any minutes for Saints this season.

Quarshie originally joined Southampton from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim for around £3 million under sporting director Johannes Spors. Since moving to Sturm Graz, the left-footed center-back has made four starts, including a 0-0 Europa League draw against Stade Rennais.
