The Houston Rockets added veteran guard Marcus Smart ahead of the 2026-2027 NBA season, prompting analysis of his fit and durability. Smart will turn 33 during the upcoming season and has played an average of 49 games per year over the last five campaigns. That average dropped to 38 games per season over the past three years, despite him appearing in 62 games for the Los Angeles Lakers last season.
Smart is a career 32 percent three-point shooter who converted 33 percent from beyond the arc with the Lakers. His playmaking production has also declined, with his assists dropping from roughly six per game earlier in his career to three per game across recent seasons, while his calling card remains his defense.
