Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber will be sidelined indefinitely after undergoing surgery for a fractured skull. The injury occurred during Minnesota's 2-1 preseason loss on Friday when he was struck in the side of the head by a shot from Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen.
The Wild announced the surgery on Tuesday, dealing a major blow to their roster ahead of the regular season. Faber played a pivotal role alongside teammate Quinn Hughes during the previous playoffs, where the duo helped Minnesota eliminate Dallas in a six-game first-round series.
