Dolphins sign linebacker to main roster; add offensive lineman to practice squad

The Miami Dolphins announced two roster transactions on Tuesday, signing linebacker Shaka Heyward to their 53-man active roster and adding offensive lineman James Ester to their practice squad. Heyward was signed away from the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad. Under NFL roster regulations, signing a player from another team's practice squad requires Miami to keep him on their active 53-man roster for at least three weeks.

The 26-year-old Heyward appeared in 18 games for the Bengals over the last two seasons, contributing both on defense and special teams. Ester returns to Miami after spending time with the team during the summer following a waiver claim from the Green Bay Packers. The roster additions come as the Dolphins prepare to play on the road against the Minnesota Vikings.
