The Flyers never stood a chance.

The Philadelphia Flyers suffered a crushing 7-0 loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins during their 2026-27 season home opener on Wednesday night. Nick Robertson scored twice, alongside goals from Ville Koivunen, Evgeni Malkin, Filip Hallander, Hendrix Lapierre, and Egor Chinakhov. Pittsburgh capitalized on special teams by going 2-for-4 on the power play and adding a shorthanded goal against goaltender Dan Vladar.
Following the defeat, head coach Rick Tocchet criticized Philadelphia's lack of engagement and discipline after the Flyers surrendered a 5-0 deficit by the second period. The Flyers will seek an immediate bounce-back opportunity on Thursday night when they travel to face the New Jersey Devils.
