Cole Sillinger, Adam Fantilli, Sean Monahan, and Mathieu Olivier also scored for Columbus, while Jet Greaves made 23 saves in goal.
Knies became the first player in franchise history to score twice in his Blue Jackets debut, tying Artemi Panarin's franchise record of three points in a debut.
