DALLAS — P.J. Washington is in the mix for a starting spot because he can play multiple positions, Dallas Mavericks coach Dusty May said Thursday after the fifth practice of training camp.
Dallas Mavericks head coach Dusty May confirmed that forward P.J. Washington is in the mix for a starting spot due to his positional versatility. May noted after training camp practice that he envisions using Washington at multiple positions, including center in small-ball lineups, small forward, and even as a point forward depending on defensive matchups.
Washington stated that his main focus is winning regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench. Entering his eighth NBA season, Washington worked extensively on his conditioning, shooting mechanics, and playmaking during the offseason while aiming to serve as a vocal veteran leader for the squad.
