Celtic midfielder Mika Baur revealed that Germany manager Jurgen Klopp shared encouraging words and joked about him becoming the nation's 1,000th capped player ahead of his international debut. Baur came on as a substitute during Germany's 2-0 Nations League victory over Serbia in Munich. He praised Klopp's aura and ability to settle pre-match nerves, describing his debut appearance as surreal.
Baur joined Celtic from Paderborn during the summer for a fee of around £7 million and has featured regularly under manager Martin O'Neill. With this appearance, Baur became only the third German international to play for Celtic, following Andreas Hinkel and Andreas Thom. He also confirmed that his debut match jersey will be framed and given to his parents.
