Pittsburgh Pirates Quietly Sign 7-Year MLB Player

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed veteran right-handed pitcher Jose Urquidy to a minor-league contract, according to MLB.com's transaction tracker. Urquidy recently elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Philadelphia Phillies rather than accepting an outright assignment to the minor leagues.

Urquidy, a seven-year MLB veteran and former World Series champion with the Houston Astros, briefly pitched for Pittsburgh earlier in 2026. Across 36.1 major league innings split between the Pirates, Phillies, and Chicago White Sox in 2026, he posted a 4.95 ERA.
