Tony Romo's CBS split was announced while he was playing golf — chasing the next step in his quest for the PGA Tour.

CBS and Tony Romo mutually agreed to part ways on Friday following his summer arrest for operating while intoxicated. The announcement broke while Romo was actively playing the third and final round of golf's Q-school at the Club at Forest Ridge in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The network announced that J.J. Watt will permanently replace Romo alongside Jim Nantz on CBS's top NFL broadcast team.
Romo released a statement noting that he plans to take a break to focus on his health and family before seeking his next opportunity. The split comes after a nine-year broadcasting partnership and marks Romo's first public appearance since pleading no contest to the OWI charge stemming from an incident after July's Wisconsin Amateur.
