The Memphis Grizzlies have decided to part ways with guard Jordan Hawkins amid a preseason roster crunch. The move comes just three weeks after Memphis acquired the 24-year-old guard from the New Orleans Pelicans in a four-player trade on September 8. If Hawkins clears waivers as expected, the Grizzlies will remain responsible for his full $7 million salary for the upcoming NBA season.
Memphis entered the final stages of training camp with 18 standard contracts and needed to clear roster spots before opening night. Hawkins, a former 2023 first-round draft pick, averaged 5.1 points in 51 games for the Pelicans last season and faced stiff competition in a backcourt featuring Scotty Pippen Jr., Ty Jerome, Jaylen Wells, and Cedric Coward.
