TThe Winnipeg Jets started their 2026-27 campaign with a loss, but the blue line showed up and kept things interesting. Dylan DeMelo got things rolling for the Jets when he drilled a slap shot past Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman…
The Winnipeg Jets opened their 2026-27 season with an overtime loss against the Boston Bruins, but received significant offensive support from their defensemen. Blueliners Dylan DeMelo and Mario Ferraro each scored goals, with Ferraro finding the net in his Jets debut. However, Boston's Elias Lindholm forced overtime late in the third period before JJ Peterka scored the game-winner in extra time to defeat Winnipeg netminder Stuart Skinner.
Todd Matthews highlights that defensive scoring offers optimism for Winnipeg following a 2025-26 campaign that produced only 229 total goals. Beyond DeMelo and Ferraro, Josh Morrissey logged over 25 minutes of ice time, while forward Kyle Connor added a goal and an assist. The Jets will seek their first victory on Sunday against the Detroit Red Wings.
