Oscar Piastri believes the inherent weaknesses in McLaren's F1 car were "exposed" in the "brutal" conditions in Sepang qualifying.

Oscar Piastri stated that the Sepang circuit in Malaysia exposed several key weaknesses in McLaren's MCL40 challenger during qualifying. The Australian driver qualified seventh on track with a time of 1:35.762, finishing just 0.005 seconds behind teammate Lando Norris. Piastri is set to start from sixth on an all-McLaren third row following a grid penalty for Isack Hadjar.
Piastri noted that the circuit's long straights highlighted the car's drag, while several slow-speed corners posed further challenges. Despite finishing 0.632 seconds adrift of pole-sitter Max Verstappen, Piastri described the result as unsurprising given the track's rough and brutal impact on tires.
