Dallas Mavericks head coach Dusty May has confirmed that forward P.J. Washington is under strong consideration for a starting role alongside Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving. Although May has not yet finalized a starting unit, he highlighted Washington's positional versatility, basketball instincts, and defensive reliability as key factors in his lineup decisions.
Washington has started 137 of 142 regular-season games for Dallas since arriving in February 2024. May emphasized Washington's ability to play across multiple positions, including center in small-ball setups or small forward in larger rotations, while noting that the coaching staff wants him to become more vocal as a leader on the court.
