Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman has passed his end-of-season physical, officially vesting his mutual option for the 2027 season. The veteran left-hander is now guaranteed a salary of at least $13 million for his age-39 campaign, which could rise to $14 million based on Reliever of the Year award incentives.
Chapman previously met the performance threshold of throwing 40 innings during the 2026 season, leaving the physical as the final requirement. Over his two seasons in Boston, the southpaw has recorded 67 saves across 113 innings with a 1.51 ERA.
