Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman has passed his end-of-season physical, according to reporter Francys Romero. This was the last detail required to turn
Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman has passed his end-of-season physical, officially vesting his guaranteed contract option for 2027. According to reporter Francys Romero, the veteran left-hander is now locked into at least a $13 million salary for his age-39 season. The final amount could reach up to $14 million based on end-of-season award voting.
Chapman previously met the on-field requirement by pitching at least 40 innings during the 2026 regular season. Despite experiencing late-season lat tightness, Chapman finished the year healthy. Across two seasons with Boston, the closer has posted a 1.51 ERA with 67 saves in 71 opportunities.
