South Side Sox writer Hannah Filippo argues that Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz should avoid arbitration hearings by securing deals with three key players: Miguel Vargas, Brenton Doyle, and Huascar Brazobán. Filippo suggests the White Sox ought to extend Vargas long term after a breakout 30-homer campaign rather than dispute his projected $5.4 million arbitration figure.
Filippo also recommends agreeing to terms with Doyle, projected at $3.66 million for his defensive value, and reliever Brazobán at an estimated $1.6 million. Retaining these three contributors would leave fellow arbitration-eligible players Joey Bart, Chris Murphy, and Jordan Leasure potentially on the outside.
