In a Premier League season increasingly shaped by injuries, rotation and congested schedules, what happens when the first choices are unavailable can be incredibly important.

A Sky Sports analysis comparing squad depth across all 20 Premier League clubs found that Arsenal ranks top in both the Overall Squad Depth Index and the Competitive Depth Index. Mikel Arteta's side features an average substitute bench value of £367m, while their theoretical second XI retains approximately 92 percent of their starting XI's £580m valuation.
The study evaluated playing time, transfer valuations, rotation rates, and substitute goal contributions across recent seasons. While Arsenal demonstrated significant overall strength, the analysis highlighted vulnerabilities such as thin left-wing depth for the Gunners, right-wing shortages for Liverpool, and low rotation trust under Michael Carrick at Manchester United.
