The 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund starlet added another feather to his cap with a first international start for the USMNT today, against Canada.

Borussia Dortmund teenager Mathis Albert achieved a major milestone by making his first start for the USMNT in their match against Canada. Starting on the left side of Mauricio Pochettino's attack, the 17-year-old became the third-youngest player to ever start for the United States men's senior squad. The USMNT secured a victory courtesy of a 29th-minute winning goal scored by lone striker Justin Ellis from an Alex Freeman cross.
Albert contributed effectively despite a highly physical Canadian defense, successfully winning all three tackles he attempted and five of ten ground duels. After debuting for Dortmund's senior side in April against Freiburg, the writer suggests Albert's impressive international breakthrough could pave the way for regular appearances in Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga squad this season.
