Well, that was a sigh of relief… After getting shut out by St. Louis and managing one goal in Nashville, the Dallas Stars weren’t exactly inspiring confidence. Monday’s 5-0 win over San Jose therefore felt less like a routine October…

The Dallas Stars secured a 5-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Monday, recovering from a difficult opening weekend where they scored just one total goal across two games. Defending Big D's George Delanjian notes that head coach Glen Gulutzan had his team return to basics to simplify their offensive play after being shut out by St. Louis and struggling in Nashville.
Goaltender Jake Oettinger recorded the 17th shutout of his career with a 13-save performance. The Sharks played without Macklin Celebrini, who was scratched prior to the game due to a lower-body injury. Delanjian writes that while one win does not fix everything, it showed the Stars' offense was not irreparably broken.
