In an exclusive interview, former Ipswich manager talks of his lasting affection for the club, savouring time out with family and friends and ideas for his next moveIt was on the Portman Road pitch, bathed in bright early May light…

Former Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has discussed his decision to leave the club after securing promotion back to the Premier League in May. McKenna explained that he decided to take a voluntary career break following four-and-a-half seasons in charge, desiring to spend time with his family while continuing his professional development. He stated that he wanted to exit on a high rather than leave prematurely.
During his time away from management, McKenna has visited clubs including Bayern Munich, Colorado Rapids, and the rugby side Wigan Warriors, alongside serving as a UEFA technical observer. Succeeded at Portman Road by Gary O'Neil, McKenna confirmed he has turned down early managerial proposals and remains in no rush to take his next role.
