Philadelphia trading one of its offensive line staples, especially after 14-year right tackle Lane Johnson announced his retirement Tuesday night, raised eyebrows.
Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman defended the team's decision to trade two-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens. The Eagles traded Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick for a 2027 fifth-rounder and a 2028 second-rounder, coming right after veteran right tackle Lane Johnson announced his retirement.
Roseman denied that the 2-2 Eagles are giving up on the season, calling the deal a long-term win-win move. The general manager expressed confidence in second-year center Drew Kendall taking over, while also seeking future draft assets and financial flexibility to re-sign upcoming defensive free agents.
