The Los Angeles Kings suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Florida Panthers in their home opener at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday. Alex Laferriere opened the scoring for the Kings late in the first period, assisted by Erik Haula. Florida answered early in the second period when Seth Jones scored off a Lars Eller pass, before Matthew Tkachuk capitalized on a neutral-zone turnover midway through the third period to net the game-winner past goaltender Darcy Kuemper.
Kings defenseman Drew Doughty and Head Coach Peter Laviolette both cited missed power-play chances, including an unsuccessful 5-on-3 opportunity, and costly turnovers as decisive factors in the loss. Despite dropping to 0-3 on the season, Los Angeles saw Kuemper stop 26 of 28 shots, while their penalty kill finished a perfect 6-for-6 on the night.
