After trailing by two goals entering the third period, Tage Thompson and Noah Ostlund scored six minutes apart to force the extra session. Owen Power then scored 4:22 into overtime to secure Buffalo's comeback victory.

Colten Ellis started in goal for Buffalo, while Jesper Wallstedt was in net for Minnesota. During the game, Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon set a franchise record by recording his 139th career power-play point. Minnesota forward Nick Foligno exited the contest early due to an upper-body injury.
