The Islanders said Wednesday that defenseman Alexander Romanov has a torn ACL and is expected to be out 6-8 months.

New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov is expected to be sidelined for six to eight months after tearing the ACL in his right knee. The team announced on Wednesday that the 26-year-old will undergo surgery following an injury sustained during a 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.
Romanov was hurt during the third period after getting tangled up with Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad and missed the final 12 minutes of the game. This marks the second consecutive season Romanov has suffered a major injury, having missed five months last season due to a shoulder issue.
