Carter Yakemchuk’s power-play bazooka secured a win over Philadelphia, but William Eklund’s leg injury cast another shadow over a big win.

The Ottawa Senators defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in their home opener on Thursday night, improving to 3-1-0 on the season. Carter Yakemchuk scored the game-winning goal on a third-period power play, while Nick Cousins also tallied for Ottawa. However, the victory was marred by a first-period lower-body injury to newcomer William Eklund, who was unable to put weight on his left leg.
Ottawa goaltender Linus Ullmark returned from injury to stop 28 of 29 shots, conceding only a power-play goal to Matvei Michkov. Head coach Travis Green praised the intensity of the win as the Flyers fell to 0-3-2 on the season.
