The Lightning are setting up their young forward for success this season by giving him time to play for Syracuse

The Tampa Bay Lightning assigned forward Dominic James to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL on Friday. Writer Harrison Smajovits argues that fans should not view the reassignment with concern, characterizing it as essentially a conditioning stint. James missed the entire preseason while recovering from a broken hand and will use the minor league assignment to gain game readiness.
James is ruled out for Saturday's game against the New York Islanders, but Smajovits suggests he could rejoin Tampa Bay in time to face the New York Rangers on Tuesday. After playing back-to-back games with Syracuse over the weekend, James is expected to return to the Lightning lineup once fully up to speed.
