Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff expressed severe frustration after George Russell suffered a late power unit failure at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. Russell had worked his way into contention for a podium position before being forced to pull over on lap 50 due to the mechanical issue.
Wolff described the event as one of his worst experiences, noting that safety cars and the failure severely damaged their constructors' points and Russell's title bid. Despite the retirement, Kimi Antonelli maintained the drivers' championship lead with 320 points, ahead of Russell on 236 and Lewis Hamilton on 214.
